The Man Behind The Mask: Lando Griffin

26.07.2018 Trends & Strategy

Pulse Management is beyond excited to have Lando Griffin @thesuitedracer as part of our roster! This content creator is a vigilante journalist and artist who has created an alternate identity for himself in the online world. Lando is mysterious, sophisticated and always on the move and we know you want to hear more about the human behind the mask. We recently sat down with Lando to discuss his inspirations, passions and world views.

What inspired you to start The Suited Racer? What is the message you want to share with the world?

It was a combination of things. I say that because ideas don’t come about sequentially. It’s a beautiful mess. With that said, it was a combination of wanting to be a successful artist, but not a famous face. I value privacy which is a synonym of anonymity.

Another aspect was to have a platform for conversations on social issues, and a tongue-in-cheek nod to people saying instagram is very fake. What better than to take that “fakeness” into overdrive by creating a fictional character in the real world.

What is the story behind the mask? Do you have any memorable stories around people’s reactions to it?

Um… the mask is a way to stay anonymous and rid the conversation of race/ethnicity from the essence of the Suited Racer. There was a particular time in Milan where this woman was very angry at me because my masked scared her. She was telling me I was going to keep her up at night with nightmares. Unintentional casualties.

What inspires your artwork? Would you say that your art is an extension of your Instagram persona or vice versa?

Definitely vice versa. Instagram is the megaphone, not the point itself. A vision of empathy is the biggest drive behind my artwork.

What is your favorite motorcycle in your collection and why?

I’d have to say the Ducati Sport Classic 1000s. It has the classic styling with the modern perks.

What is your favorite place you’ve ridden your motorcycle and where do you want to ride next?

So far, tail of the dragon in North Carolina. I’d love to do a ride from the northern tip of South America, all the way to Tierra del Fuego.

What inspires your personal style? Any people, values or brands that influence your style?

Definitely the stereotypes: Paul Newman, Thelonious Monk, Steve McQueen. In terms of values… they are a mixed breed tangled spaghetti soup. We want to classify the world as good or bad. This is a fantasy. I am fascinated by the values of Martin Luther King, but he was also a known philanderer. I think foresight is one of the most powerful qualities a person can have. Any brand that dares to take a stand. Puma was created when Rudolf Dassler had a differing point of view from his younger brother Adolf Dassler on helping the German Nazi army. This move is the embodiment of foresight and values combined into one. Dassler shoes split and now we have Adidas (Adi Dassler) and Puma.
